About Glasgow Street Music


Welcome to Glasgow Street Music!

I’m Ciara, a 20 year old Business student @ Uni of Strathclyde. For this semester’s marketing class, we’ve been given the task to create a blog about something that we feel passionate about.

 

Anyone that knows me knows I’m a regular in the Glasgow music scene and like many others, I’m gutted about the music restrictions placed on venues in light of the coronavirus pandemic. With no nightclubs, gig venues or live music in pubs – all that’s left to bring music to the city are buskers.

 

We are so lucky to have a thriving community of buskers to prevent Glasgow from truly becoming a silent city and I’ve created this blog to bring some well-deserved attention to the voices we hear on Glasgow’s bustling streets. I hope you’ll enjoy hearing some of the talent that we’re so fortunate to have on our doorstep, and will check out the musicians I’ll have the pleasure of speaking to for yourself.

  Welcome back to Glasgow Street Music!  After a lengthy break from scouring Glasgow’s busiest streets for up-and-coming talent, I simply had to break my hiatus to introduce you to KüBA. Although not quite my usual busking blog subjects, I had the pleasure of discovering this local talent via their video of their latest release  'OvER & OvER'  . The band consists of five members, and covers a variety of genres ranging from rock to indie to funk.    You can hear for yourself via KüBA’s  Soundcloud , where they have so far released three of their own songs - although there are new tunes coming very soon. Promising Piper Pattison

  Welcome back to Glasgow Street Music!  This week’s post is on something a little different… Introducing 15 year old Andrew Pattison from Troon! A keen bagpiper and South Ayrshire’s Young Musician of the Year 2018, Andrew’s been busking for around three years. From seeing the positive reception that busking bagpipers received from tourists and locals alike, Andrew decided to try his hand at piping on Buchanan Street after some encouragement from his grandpa. The sight of Andrew piping quickly gathered the crowds; a 12 year old boy playing a national symbol of Scotland itself was a depiction of our country’s rich culture and his own talents combined. Busking: Mark Kyle Style

  Welcome back to Glasgow Street Music! This week I had the pleasure of chatting to 23 year old Mark Kyle – an up-and-coming musician based in Glasgow. Introducing Mark Kyle Mark started street busking at the age of 18 during his gap year before enrolling at university to study politics and French. He began in Glasgow’s popular busking scene before travelling to cities like Oslo, Rome and Paris to share his music. On top of his degree, Mark busked to raise his finances throughout his studies to support himself and to gain more experience in performing – even during his year abroad in the south of France (which he admits went towards funding his nights out!) Since finishing university, Mark landed a position with a well-known record company to pursue his ambition of working in the music industry.
